RAYMOND
PETTIBON
22
September - 3 December

CAC
Málaga presents a retrospective exhibition
of work produced over the last decade by the American
artist Raymond Pettibon, one of the most influential
figures on today's art scene. The project brings
together a total of 278 drawings and paintings,
including examples of Pettibon's series and most
recurrent themes, creating a fascinating combination
of text and image. Two animations will also be
shown as part of the show, works that give Pettibon's
illustrations movement, accompanied by sound and
voices off. These form an excellent complement
to the figurative works, echoing their thematic
concerns.
Pettibon's
work takes a critical look at North American society,
focusing on typical elements in the popular culture,
from more marginal aspects to art, literature,
sport, religion, music, film, politics and sexuality.
The 280 pieces showcased at CAC Málaga,
produced between 1996 and 2006, invite the spectator
to reflect on the course of history and its repercussions
on all aspects of today's world. For the most
part featuring paper and ink cartoon stories,
the paintings of this artist, who lives in California,
allude particularly to aspects of everyday life
on the west coast of the United States.
