CAC
Málaga presents an exhibition by Lara Almarcegui,
in which the artist explores the bases of the
urban development and architectural universe by
making an inventory and piling up building materials.
The exhibition at CAC Málaga by Lara Almarcegui,
comprising a total of 106 tonnes of gravel, 57
tonnes of sand, 24 tonnes of cement, 2 tonnes
of steel, 3 tonnes of plaster and 0.2 tonnes of
paint, shows the artist's critical view of building,
exploring the role of urban development in society
and examining the link which exists between people
and the context in which they live. The materials
assembled results from an exhaustive process of
calculating the exact amounts needed to build
the room which houses the exhibition itself.
Almarcegui's work takes as its starting point
a process of research into spaces in the urban
landscape such as empty lots, buildings abandoned
or undergoing transformation, gardens and ruins.
These projects and installations are documented
by photographs accompanied by texts, maps or guides.
Almarcegui relates her projects directly to the
specific place in which they are developed, in
this way creating a link between the exhibition
and the city.
