CARO
NIEDERER
SOUVENIR
AND CONVERSATIONS
17
November 2006 - 21 January 2007

CAC
Málaga hosts the first solo exhibition
in Spain by Caro Niederer (Zurich, 1963), featuring
the Swiss artist's latest works: a score of photographs
and paintings, mostly in large format, and the
video Conversations About Work (2004),
which will be shown with subtitles in Spanish.
Sepia paintings, photographs of interiors and
a video: these are the recent works featured in
Caro Niederer's exhibition Souvenir and Conversations
at CAC Málaga, the Swiss artist's first
solo show in Spain. These are works representing
Niederer's reality, building up a complete universe
of the artist's experiences and memories.
Thematically, Niederer's work focuses on the interconnection
between art and the daily routine. At the outset
of her artistic career, in the early-1990s, she
specialised in small-format, sometimes miniature
paintings inspired by the postcards this Swiss
artist collected on her journeys all over the
world, featuring both tourist destinations and
famous artworks. Later, she also based many works
on themes and details from her own personal photographs.
In 1993, the artist introduced a new genre into
her repertoire: the tapestry, frequently in large
dimensions.
